Khamzat Chimaev says he would move all the way up to heavyweight for a fight with Alex Pereira if that is what it takes to land the biggest matchup available.
A massive crossover fight may already be on Khamzat Chimaev’s radar. In comments released this week, the unbeaten contender said he would even jump to heavyweight to meet Alex Pereira if Pereira’s next move takes him there following a potential loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC 317.
That idea instantly grabs attention in the American MMA market because Chimaev has long been viewed as a multi-division threat, while Pereira has become one of the UFC’s biggest pay-per-view draws. Even without an official booking, the possibility of those two sharing a cage feels like the kind of super fight the promotion would seriously explore if the timing lines up.
Chimaev made it clear he is not interested in circling through familiar middleweight contenders just to maintain position. His point was simple: beating Sean Strickland or Nassourdine Imavov does not move the needle for him the way a Pereira fight would.
