UFC Fight Night 275 is set for Perth after the full card stepped on the scale ahead of Saturday’s event, and the spotlight now shifts to the welterweight main event between Jack Della Maddalena and Carlos Prates. Both men weighed in at 170 pounds, clearing the final hurdle before a matchup that could reshape the division’s immediate contender picture.
For the UFC, this is more than a routine Fight Night headliner. Della Maddalena fighting in Australia gives the promotion a proven local draw in a market that has turned into one of its most reliable international stops, and Perth crowds have built a reputation for treating hometown favorites like championship attractions.
The stakes are obvious. Della Maddalena has long been viewed as one of the division’s cleanest boxers, and a win would strengthen his case as a serious threat near the top of the 170-pound class. Prates, meanwhile, has become one of the more intriguing names to American fans because of his finishing ability and aggressive style. If he wins on the road against a popular Australian contender, he likely jumps from dark horse to legitimate factor in the title conversation.
Elsewhere on the card, Beneil Dariush and Quillan Salkilld both came in at 156 pounds for their lightweight clash, while Tim Elliott weighed 126 and Steve Erceg came in at 125.5 for their flyweight bout. Heavyweights Shamil Gaziev and Brando Pericic also made weight, as did Louie Sutherland and Tai Tuivasa.
The only problem on the scale came in the middleweight matchup between Jacob Malkoun and Gerald Meerschaert. Malkoun weighed 186 pounds, but Meerschaert checked in at 190, four pounds over the non-title middleweight limit. The fight is expected to move forward with Meerschaert giving up 30 percent of his purse.
Now the real question is whether Della Maddalena can protect home turf or whether Prates can crash the welterweight mix in emphatic fashion once the cage door closes in Perth.
