After Movsar Evloev’s win over Lerone Murphy, UFC CEO Dana White addressed whether the unbeaten featherweight could be next in line for a title fight against reigning champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Fresh off the main event at UFC Fight Night 270, Dana White was asked Saturday night whether Movsar Evloev had done enough with his win over Lerone Murphy to secure a featherweight title shot against Alexander Volkanovski. Speaking after the event, the UFC CEO said Evloev is clearly in a strong position, even if no immediate decision has been made.
White’s comments matter because 145 pounds has been one of the UFC’s most competitive divisions, and Evloev has quietly built one of the most compelling cases in the weight class. An unbeaten fighter with a grinding, high-control style, Evloev has become a serious threat to anyone near the top of the rankings, even if he hasn’t always gotten the same buzz in the American media as some of the division’s bigger personalities.
“Maybe, yeah. I’m not even thinking about that. The fight just ended, but yeah, obviously Movsar is in a great position,” White said, according to reporter Aaron Bronsteter on X.
Evloev defeated Murphy by majority decision in the UFC Fight Night 270 headliner, extending his unbeaten run and keeping his place in the title conversation. That result gives the UFC a real choice to make: move Evloev directly into a championship matchup with Volkanovski or ask him to take one more high-risk contender fight first.
From a divisional standpoint, Evloev presents a very different challenge than most featherweight contenders. His pressure, pace, and control can turn flashy fights into technical, draining ones, which is exactly why he’s such an interesting test for a champion like Volkanovski. If the UFC goes in another direction, expect debate from fans who believe Evloev has already done enough to earn the opportunity.
For now, the biggest thing to watch is whether the promotion rewards Evloev’s résumé with a title shot—or makes him prove it one more time before a meeting with Volkanovski becomes official.
