Hernandez was considered a rising talent in Mexican boxing. He started engaging in this sport at 15, participated in regional championships, and won numerous titles. Success in the amateur ring and sparring with elite professionals prompted Hernandez to turn professional just five years after he first put on gloves.
Hernandez's coach, former world title contender Titan Rodriguez, who is also part of David Picasso's training team ahead of his bout with Naoya Inoue on December 27, posted news of this tragedy on social media.
“Today I woke up with devastating and heartbreaking news that you are no more. My friend, my brother, my running partner. So many dreams left unfulfilled. So many conversations and our belief in each other in achieving everything. Part of my heart went with you,” wrote Rodriguez.
“Only God knows why all this happens, your passing has deeply hurt me, and I will work incredibly hard to achieve all the goals we set together. I loved you very much, Josué David Hernandez, may God accept you into His holy kingdom. You will shine in the heavens, my king,” added the coach.
