"I did my job," Cruz asserted. "The judges saw what the referee favored [Lamont Roach Jr]. I just came to have a great fight and to give myself to the people of San Antonio. I won; the one who took the fight away from me was the referee."
He made it known that he would welcome a rematch but insisted it should involve different officials. "I came to show my work, and everyone saw that the referee tried to help him. Of course, I would give him the rematch but with another referee," Cruz added.
Meanwhile, Lamont Roach also voiced his disagreement with the decision, believing firmly in his victory over Cruz despite acknowledging its closeness.
"All I want is to be treated fairly, that's all I want," stated Roach. "I think I won the fight; I got a close victory. I thought I had won a close fight, yes, but I won."
