Jai Opetaia (29-0, 23 KOs) scored a brutal victory over Hussein Chincara (23-1, 19 KOs), retaining his IBF world cruiserweight title. The fight headlined the boxing evening in Broadbeach, Australia.

The 30-year-old Australian delivered perhaps the dullest and most incoherent performance since he became a top cruiserweight fighter several years ago.

Chincara slightly shook Opetaia in the second round, but it was just a fleeting glimpse of hope. In the eighth round, the 40-year-old German Turk took a devastating left hand and was left heavily knocked out, taking a long time to recover.

Opetaia admitted that the performance was not the best: ā€œI am very disappointed in myself. I felt that I let some people down with my performance. But Chincara definitely came out to fight. He boxed very well. Honestly, I felt that I boxed poorly. There were many mistakes, and I am damn angry, but we won and we move forward.ā€

Jai also announced his intention to unify the titles with WBO and WBA champion Gilberto Ramirez.
