David Benavidez, known as "Monster," recently expressed his thoughts on a dream match against Canelo Alvarez. Speaking ahead of his upcoming fight with Anthony Yarde at ANB Arena in Riyadh on November 22, the undefeated American and WBC light heavyweight champion stated that he believes Canelo should face him for both financial gain and respect.
Benavidez holds an impressive record of 30 wins with 24 coming by knockout. He stepped into the role of WBC champion after Dmitry Bivol vacated the title, which skyrocketed him up in boxing's competitive ladder. Anthony Yarde, his challenger from England, brings a strong background with 27 wins including 24 knockouts to the ring. Benavidez intends to entertain fans by using a strategy focusing on combinations and bodywork against Yarde.
"Anthony Yarde is strong, a good fighter, a puncher and has great experience. I will put in a lot of combinations, I will work his body...and I will give a good fight to the public."
Looking beyond this matchup, Benavidez has set ambitious goals for his career. He talks about moving up to cruiserweight to potentially fight Gilberto Ramirez. His long-term goals include securing more belts across weight classes to climb higher than his current ninth place ranking by 'The Ring.'
Aside from the physical challenge in the ring, Benavidez dreams of someday training his sons to be world champions themselves.
His future targets include epic battles against names like Canelo Alvarez as well as Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol, aiming for further glory in the light heavyweight division.
"I don't know what he's looking for; if he wants money and people's respect he should face me. I'm not saying he's afraid of me, but I'm ready and if we face each other I will beat him."
Benavidez also reflected on some tough battles from his past which have shaped him into the fighter he is today. Facing David Morrell proved challenging with rounds going down to points rather than a decisive knockout.
For now though focus remains firmly fixed on Anthony Yarde – with training intensifying as fight night draws near – leaving fans buzzing about what promises to be an exciting next chapter in Benavidez’s blossoming career journey in boxing history.
