The bout was set for November 14 at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. But ESPN reports it's moving to the Kaseya Center in Miami. Most Valuable Promotions, the company behind the event, pulled their permit request in Georgia.
The commission wouldn't approve the fight because of the big weight difference between Paul and Davis. Jake usually fights around 200 pounds. His last bout was at 199.4 pounds. Davis has never gone above 140 pounds and weighed 133.8 pounds in his last fight.
Jake didn't seem bothered by the switch. He said:
"New city, same mission: seek and destroy the Tank ... Miami will see how I take down this angry elf while the world watches on Netflix"
The fight will stream on Netflix. It's part of Jake's plan to make boxing a big, viral event.
Jake's on a roll with six wins in a row. His record stands at 12-1 with wins over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Mike Tyson, and Mike Perry. Davis' last fight ended in a draw against Lamont Roach Jr.
Nikisa Bidarian, who started Most Valuable Promotions with Jake, talked about the issues in Georgia:
"From the beginning, we were clear with GAEC about the agreement between the fighters... We will share the details next week at our press conference"
Georgia's Commissioner Rick Thompson said the event was "promoting something it shouldn't." Bidarian fired back, saying Thompson might have personal reasons for blocking the fight. He also pointed out that the event would have been good for Georgia and for boxing.
Miami's Kaseya Center knows how to handle big shows. It looks ready for all the media attention this fight will bring.
