Deontay Wilder wants to get back to the top of the heavyweight division. The 39-year-old former WBC champion is pushing for big fights, especially one with Anthony Joshua.
Wilder's recent run hasn't been great. He lost to Joseph Parker on points in December 2023 and got knocked out by Zhilei Zhang in 2024. He did bounce back with a win over Tyrell Herndon in June, but that came after losing two out of three tough fights with Tyson Fury.
The American boxer talked to The Fighter's Voice about his plans. He's sure a fight with Joshua will happen.
"Most definitely [the AJ fight will happen]… we're still in it and we're still active and we're gonna meet each other."
Wilder feels good about what's happening in boxing right now. He thinks there are people who want to make the best fights happen.
"You know it's a lot of great things that has been going on in boxing you know with different people that's getting involved and making the best fights happen at this appropriate time, you know and I'm looking forward to it all."
The Bronze Bomber knows he doesn't have time to waste. He's got a plan, but he's ready to take shortcuts if needed.
"I don't have no time to take no steps back, you know we have a strategic plan that we have planned set for and we're following along with it but if we have to take certain shortcuts and certain things we will do so. I am a veteran in this business at this moment in time and I love every bit of it."
Joshua, for his part, hasn't fought since stopping Daniel Dubois inside five rounds last September. There's talk of him fighting Jake Paul next. But fans really want to see him face Tyson Fury in a fight that would define both men's legacies.
Wilder's pushing hard to get back to world title level. At 39, he knows his time at the top might be running out. A fight with Joshua could be just what he needs to jump back into the title picture.
