Canelo Alvarez wants another shot at Floyd Mayweather. The four-weight world champion told DAZN he'd love to avenge his only professional loss, even though he knows it's not likely to happen.
Alvarez has become one of boxing's biggest stars over the past decade. He's won world titles from super-welterweight all the way up to light heavyweight, beating top fighters like Gennady Golovkin and Sergey Kovalev along the way.
The Mexican superstar is set to defend his undisputed super-middleweight titles against Terence Crawford on September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. But he still thinks about that night back in September 2013 when a young Canelo suffered his first and only defeat against Mayweather.
"Yes, of course [I would like to fight Mayweather again]. I would love the opportunity to get revenge. Obviously we know it's not going to happen but yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn."
Canelo made those comments in a recent interview with DAZN. While he's gone on to achieve incredible success, that loss to Mayweather clearly still bothers him.
Mayweather retired with a perfect 50-0 record after beating some of the best fighters of his era. He took down legends like Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, and Miguel Cotto during his Hall of Fame career.
Mayweather got emotional when he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame last year, calling it a career highlight. He's shown no interest in coming out of retirement for real fights.
So while Canelo may want that rematch, it looks like he'll have to be content with all he's accomplished since that night in 2013. His upcoming clash with Crawford gives him a chance to add another huge win to his already stellar resume.
