Shane Mosley, the hall-of-fame fighter and three-weight world champion, wants to get back in the ring. He's set his sights on Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather to prove he's still got what it takes.
Mosley, known as 'Sugar' Shane, faced both Pacquiao and Mayweather within a 12-month period during his prime. Now, he's looking for a final flourish as a professional. In an interview with Seconds Out, Mosley laid out his ambitious plans.
"The motivation is to prove people wrong. To let them know that I'm the best. Sugar Shane Mosley is still here. I'm not an old grandpa, I'm still available and ready to fight. Manny Pacquiao is 46 years old, he just fought to a draw, people thought he won or whatever, he's proving that age is just a number. It's your mentality. I want to prove that."
Pacquiao, at 46, recently fought to a majority decision draw against Mario Barrios in Las Vegas on July 19. The bout was for the WBC welterweight championship, showing that the Filipino legend can still compete at the highest level.
Mosley's plan doesn't stop with Pacquiao. He's got his eyes on an even bigger prize.
"Actually, I want to fight Manny Pacquiao next, and then the winner fights Floyd Mayweather. I want to show the world I'm still here. You can't get rid of me. When I want to leave, I'll leave. I'm not ready to leave. I love boxing … 100% percent."
Mayweather, who retired undefeated, hasn't fought professionally since his monumental crossover showdown with Conor McGregor in 2017, which he won via tenth round stoppage.
Mosley's return to the ring hasn't been smooth sailing. He recently suffered a points defeat to Matt Floyd on July 25 at the Indigo O2 in London. The bout marked his first ring appearance since last September.
Despite the setback, Mosley remains determined to prove that age is just a number in boxing. He's ready to show the world that 'Sugar' Shane Mosley is far from done.
