Ryan Garcia plans to make his boxing comeback in December. The young fighter has named two potential opponents for his return: Manny Pacquiao and Rolando 'Rolly' Romero.
Garcia's career hit a rough patch earlier this year. He lost a fight he was expected to win against Romero in May. The upset victory for Romero saw Garcia get knocked down during the bout. This setback came after Garcia failed a drug test, resulting in a one-year ban and the cancellation of his planned fight with Devin Haney in Spring 2024.
Now, Garcia's looking to get back on track. He's set his sights on a big name for his return - Manny Pacquiao. The legendary Filipino boxer recently came back to the ring himself after a four-year break. Pacquiao fought to a majority decision draw against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in July.
Garcia expressed his interest in facing Pacquiao:
"I've been interested in fighting the legendary Manny Pacquiao for a while now. It's something that you dream of. There were talks in the past of us fighting, and then it fell through. There is a history there. I am always up for the challenge. I would be lying if I said I am not interested. If Manny wants to throw down, let's do it."
If the Pacquiao fight doesn't materialize, Garcia's got a backup plan. He's open to a rematch with Romero, the man who handed him his recent defeat. Discussions for this fight are reportedly underway.
Garcia stated:
"If Manny Pacquiao does not want to fight me and make big money in a huge fight, then let's do it. If not, that's OK with me. I can fight Rolly in a rematch – either route is OK with me."
The proposed comeback fight is penciled in for December in Las Vegas. Pacquiao seems to be a hot commodity since his return. Hall of Famer Shane Mosley has also called out the Filipino icon for a rematch.
Garcia's next move will be crucial for his career. Whether he faces the legendary Pacquiao or seeks revenge against Romero, December promises to be an important month for the young boxer's future.
