Larry Holmes, a legendary heavyweight boxer, has taken a swipe at George Foreman. The former champ called Foreman a "fraud" and the "biggest phoney" in boxing in a recently resurfaced YouTube video.
Holmes, known as "The Easton Assassin," ruled the heavyweight division from 1978 to 1985. He racked up an impressive 69 wins in 75 professional fights and went undefeated in his first 48 bouts. His list of victories includes big names like Leon Spinks, Trevor Berbick, and Muhammad Ali.
In the YouTube footage, Holmes didn't hold back on his thoughts about Foreman:
"Everybody know that George Foreman can't fight, everybody know that Tommy Morrison kicked his butt, everybody know that Shannon Briggs kicked his butt, everybody knew that he wouldn't fight me .. George Foreman is the biggest phoney ever."
Holmes claims everyone knew Foreman couldn't fight and avoided facing him in the ring. The two heavyweights never actually squared off, though there were talks about a potential bout at one point.
Foreman, nicknamed "Big George," had a 30-year career in boxing. He won the world heavyweight championship twice and set a record as the oldest world heavyweight champ in 1994. That year, he knocked out Michael Moorer in the 10th round to reclaim the title.
Despite Foreman's achievements, Holmes seems unimpressed. The criticism adds another layer to the complex relationships between boxing's heavyweight legends. It's a reminder that even years after hanging up the gloves, the competitive spirit and strong opinions remain in the world of boxing.
