Carl Froch Delivers Blunt Verdict on Tyson Fury's Chances Against Usyk: "He's Not The Same Fighter"

Ronald Crawley July 7, 2025, 5:10 a.m.

Fury's only two defeats in his professional career came at the hands of Usyk. Their first clash in May 2024 for the undisputed heavyweight championship ended with Usyk winning by split decision. The Ukrainian earned a count against Fury in the ninth round of that bout. Their rematch in December 2024 saw Usyk secure a unanimous decision victory, leading to Fury's retirement.

Now, Fury has announced he wants another shot at Usyk, proposing a trilogy fight for May 2026. This announcement didn't sit well with Froch, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his opinion.

I've just been reading about him b*tching and moaning about losing to Usyk, talking about he wants a fair shake. He boxed him in the first fight and was lucky not to get chinned end of round nine. The referee basically jumped in and saved him. Then he gets the rematch, and loses again.

Froch emphasized that there's no shame in losing to a fighter of Usyk's caliber, but he criticized Fury's complaints about the judging.

There's no shame in losing to Oleksandr Usyk, he's one of the best to do it. But don't come out now when you're retired and say you want a fair go, fair judging. You got a fair shake. The judges ruled the correct decision not once but twice, you got beat fair and square. You're good, but you're not as good as you think you are.

The former champion pointed out Fury's physical advantages over Usyk, making his losses even more significant.

You've got a foot reach, foot height advantage, and loads of weight. You got beat by the smaller man, he's a cruiserweight really. He's done you twice, and he'll do you for a third time. You should be magnanimous in defeat, you do the sport no favours by moaning about judges and wanting a fair crack of the whip. You got f**king done, get over it and move on.

While Fury contemplates his next move, Usyk is set to defend his undisputed heavyweight titles in a rematch against Daniel Dubois on July 19. Their previous encounter in August 2023 ended with Usyk stopping Dubois.
