Jake Paul, the 28-year-old from Cleveland, Ohio, has moved up in the boxing world. He's now ranked number 14 in the WBA cruiserweight division after beating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr last Saturday night.
Paul took on the former WBC world middleweight champion at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. He controlled the fight from the start and didn't face much trouble. Chavez Jr, now 39, got a lot of criticism for how he fought.
The WBA's decision to rank Paul has caused a stir. Many analysts, fans, and fighters think it's not fair.
Craig Parker, a hard-hitting cruiserweight contender, isn't happy about it. He used to be ranked 14th but now he's 15th because of Paul. Parker told TMZ Sports:
"I got up yesterday morning and the first thing that came to my news feed was Jake Paul ranked number 14 by the WBA where I was ranked at number 14 by the WBA, moved me down to number 15 and it was just something like all the hard work I put in over the years. It's a struggle to be ranked in the WBA or any belt and stuff like that, so for him just to take a position that guys like me that struggle to find a ways to the gym, it's a long road to be where we at you know, and for him just to be number 14 it was a slap in the face. What can I say? It was disgusting news to me."
Some people say Paul shouldn't be ranked so high because he's mostly fought retired MMA fighters. But Paul has his sights set on bigger things. He wants to fight Gilberto Ramirez, who holds the WBA and WBO world cruiserweight titles. He's also interested in a bout with Badou Jack, the WBC cruiserweight champion.
Paul's quick rise in the rankings has shaken up the boxing world. It's clear he's making waves, but not everyone's happy about it. We'll have to wait and see what his next move will be.
