Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will face off in a super-middleweight showdown next September. The fight's got boxing's biggest names talking, including former champion Evander Holyfield.
Alvarez and Crawford agreed to the bout in May 2025, right after Canelo beat William Scull to add the IBF title to his collection. ESPN reported the news, confirming the fight for Canelo's undisputed super-middleweight crown.
Canelo currently holds all four major belts at 168 pounds. Crawford's taking a big step up from 154 pounds, where he won the WBA title against Israil Madrimov last August. Crawford's already been undisputed at welterweight and super-lightweight. Now he's aiming to make history as the first male fighter to be undisputed in three weight classes.
Evander Holyfield, who was undisputed at both cruiserweight and heavyweight, thinks Canelo's got the edge. He told Fight Hub TV:
"It's gonna be hard to beat Canelo. He's real basic but a good fighter."
Holyfield's words suggest the weight difference might be too much for Crawford to overcome.
But not everyone agrees with Holyfield. James Toney, who once beat Holyfield himself, thinks Crawford's got what it takes. Toney believes Crawford will follow in his footsteps and pull off the upset.
The fight's set for September 2025, likely in Las Vegas. Boxing fans can't wait to see if Crawford can make history or if Canelo will cement his place at the top of the sport.
