Jake Paul is getting ready to step back into the ring. The 28-year-old from Cleveland, Ohio will face former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a cruiserweight bout.
The fight will happen on Saturday, June 28, at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Paul's looking to build on his recent success after beating Mike Tyson, who's 58, by unanimous decision last November at AT&T; Stadium in Texas.
Paul's professional boxing career has been impressive so far. He's racked up wins against MMA legends like Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, and Anderson Silva. In fact, he's only lost once as a pro, dropping a split decision to Tommy Fury in February 2023.
Speaking of Fury, he shared his thoughts on Paul's upcoming fight with Chavez Jr:
"I don't know, it is what it is, but put it this way, if I can box circles round him, a former world champion who's done 12 rounds with Canelo Alvarez and many great champions, he should be able to do one better, shouldn't he? But listen, age is a killer isn't it. He's fighting someone past his pomp, way past his pomp."
Fury thinks Chavez Jr has the skills to beat Paul, but he's worried about the former champ's age. He thinks Chavez Jr might be past his best days in the ring.
For Paul, this fight is a big deal. He needs to win, and win well, if he wants to keep moving towards his goal of getting a shot at a world title. It's a tough challenge, but Paul's trying to prove he can win world honors against the odds.
The fight was officially announced recently, and fans are eager to see how Paul handles a former world champion opponent. It's a step up in competition that could tell us a lot about Paul's future in boxing.
