Manny Pacquiao will step back into the boxing ring at 46 years old. The former multiple world champion and Philippine senator will face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, 30, on July 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao hasn't fought since 2021 when he lost to Yordenis Ugas. His return has sparked mixed reactions from fans and experts. Many worry about the 16-year age gap between Pacquiao and Barrios, as well as Pacquiao's long break from the sport while serving as a senator.

But not everyone's against the comeback. Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard has thrown his support behind Pacquiao. Leonard told TMZ:

"There's nothing that really makes people understand why we do what we do. But you know what, God bless you, take care of yourself and stay healthy."

Leonard knows a thing or two about comebacks. He returned to the ring at 40 years old in 1997 after a six-year retirement to face Hector "Macho" Camacho. The Hall of Famer said he's "totally in favor" of Pacquiao's decision to fight again.

"I've come back more times than anyone. I have the undisputed record," Leonard quipped.

Leonard's support carries weight. He's widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time and made several successful comebacks during his career.

Pacquiao seems to be following in Leonard's footsteps with this return. Despite concerns about his age and time away from the sport, the Filipino legend clearly feels he has more to give in the ring.

As the July 19 fight date approaches, all eyes will be on Pacquiao to see if he can recapture the magic that made him a global superstar and multiple-division world champion.
