Canelo, the undisputed super-middleweight champion, just beat William Scull on May 3 to claim all the belts at 168 pounds for the second time. Right after that win, Canelo announced he'd be fighting Crawford next.
Crawford, nicknamed "Bud," is 37 years old and comes from Omaha. He's spent most of his career fighting at welterweight, which is 147 pounds. Now, he's moving up to 168 pounds to challenge Canelo. It's a big jump, but Crawford seems confident about taking on the Mexican superstar.
Some fans and experts are calling this the biggest fight in boxing. If Crawford wins, it could go down as one of the greatest victories ever in boxing history.
Zab Judah, who used to be the undisputed welterweight champion, thinks Crawford will win. He told ESNEWS:
"Crawford, no hesitation. Big Bud, big Bud, we're gonna have to throw Canelo off, we're gonna have to pack him up. It's a very big challenge but for his skill, and the way he's adapted to the size, brother when I seen them stand toe-to-toe and side-by-side, I said game over, Terence Crawford, and don't be surprised if he stops him, I'm telling you, don't be surprised if Terence 'Bud' Crawford stops Canelo."
Some people worry about Crawford moving up so much in weight. But Judah thinks Crawford's skills and how he's adapted to the size difference will make the difference.
The fight is set for September 13. Both fighters will have a lot to prove when they step into the ring.
