Toney made his name in the early to mid-1990s, winning world titles in three weight divisions. He beat some of the best in the business, including Mike McCallum, Evander Holyfield, Danny Garcia, Iran Barkley, and Michael Nunn. His first loss didn't come until his 47th pro fight, when he faced Roy Jones Jr in 1994.
The former champ tried his hand at heavyweight too. He beat John Ruiz for the WBA heavyweight title, but the win got taken away when he failed a drug test. In 2006, he fought Hasim Rahman to a split decision draw.
Now, Toney's looking to lace up the gloves again. In an interview with ESNEWS, he said he wants one more fight in 2025. And he's got his eye on a specific opponent:
"One more! We're trying, but everybody's scared. As you've already seen, every time I say Jake Paul, he turns the other way. It's no problem if he wants to fight me, I'm gonna knock your a** out."
Toney's comeback plans have raised some eyebrows in the boxing world. His age is a big concern, especially after what happened with Mike Tyson last November. Tyson, another boxing legend, lost to Jake Paul over eight rounds at AT&T; Stadium in Texas. That fight got a lot of people talking about whether these kinds of bouts should even be allowed.
Will Toney get his wish and step back into the ring? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure – he still believes he's got what it takes to compete at the highest level.
