Jake Paul is getting ready for his first fight of 2025. The 28-year-old from Cleveland, Ohio will face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
Chavez Jr, 39, from Culiacan, is a former WBC world middleweight champion. The fight will be Paul's 13th as a professional boxer.
Paul's last fight was in November 2024 when he outpointed Mike Tyson over eight rounds in Texas. He got some flak for fighting the 58-year-old Tyson, but Paul says he wants to become a real world champion.
Chavez Jr has won his last two fights. He lost to MMA legend Anderson Silva four years ago but says he wants to get revenge for Tyson by beating Paul.
Canelo Alvarez, who beat Chavez Jr by unanimous decision in their homeland in 2017, thinks his countryman has a shot. The reigning undisputed super-middleweight king said:
"Yeah [Chavez can win]. I obviously support Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I hope he wins. [If] he prepares himself really good and takes it seriously and beats him."
Canelo and Paul talked about fighting each other recently, but Canelo decided to stick to traditional boxing. He'll defend his undisputed super-middleweight titles against Terence Crawford later this year.
