Legendary Promoter's Blunt Message to Pacquiao: "He's Not The Same Fighter"

Manny Pacquiao plans to step back into the ring for a big fight. The Filipino boxing legend will face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on Saturday, July 19, likely in Las Vegas.

At 46 years old, Pacquiao aims to add another world title to his impressive collection. He's already won belts in eight weight divisions and lineal championships in four. A win against Barrios would be huge for 'Pac-Man'.

Pacquiao hasn't had a professional fight since 2021 when he lost to Yordenis Ugas. He's kept busy with two exhibition bouts since then, taking on DK Yoo in 2022 and Rukiya Anpo earlier this year.

But not everyone's excited about Pacquiao's comeback. His former promoter, Bob Arum, has some strong words of caution. Arum told FightHype:

"Well you know, I wish him all the luck in the world but I don't know if it's very wise, particularly for somebody who's running for Senate in the Philippines, to go back to boxing at his age."

Arum's concern makes sense. Pacquiao's not just a boxer anymore - he's got political goals too. He's currently running for a Senate seat in the Philippines.

The fight against Barrios will be a real test for Pacquiao. It's one thing to do exhibition matches, but a full-on title fight is a different beast. Fans will be watching closely to see if the Filipino star still has what it takes to compete at the highest level.

If Pacquiao pulls off a win, it'll be a massive achievement. But as Arum points out, there's a lot on the line - both in and out of the ring.
