Rolando 'Rolly' Romero thinks David Benavidez will beat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez if they ever fight. Romero shared this opinion despite Canelo's impressive record of 65 wins and only 2 losses in his 67 fights.
Canelo recently became the undisputed super-middleweight champion again after defeating William Scull. He's now getting ready for a big fight against Terence 'Bud' Crawford in September 2023. Many boxing fans are excited about this matchup.
But Romero, who just had the best win of his career against Ryan Garcia, doesn't think Crawford will beat Canelo. In an interview with FightHype, Romero said:
"What the f**k has Canelo done in a very long time? … Yeah, I'm picking him to beat Bud [Crawford] but that doesn't mean anything. I know Benavidez is gonna beat his f***ing ass. Because Benavidez is not fighting for a cheque, Benavidez is fighting because he wants to f***ing win. That's the difference, you don't see that? Every fight Benavidez comes to win."
Romero believes Benavidez, the current WBC Light-Heavyweight World Champion, fights to win, not just for money. That's why he thinks Benavidez would beat Canelo.
Canelo hasn't been keen on fighting Benavidez, even though many fans want to see it happen. He's said he'd only move up in weight again to rematch Dmitry Bivol, who gave him one of his two losses. The other loss on Canelo's record came against Floyd Mayweather, both on points.
Right now, a fight between Canelo and Benavidez looks less likely. Benavidez has moved up to light-heavyweight and doesn't plan to come back down to super-middleweight. So, for now, we'll have to wait and see if this match-up ever happens.
