Garcia got stopped in the seventh round when he faced Davis last year. It was a tough pill to swallow for the former WBC 'Interim' lightweight champ, who had never tasted defeat as a pro before.
Davis, known as 'Tank', holds the WBA lightweight title and has made a name for himself with his fierce fighting style and powerful punches. Garcia knows he's up against a tough opponent but feels ready for round two.
In a recent chat, Garcia made it clear he's game for another go with Davis. He said:
"At the end of the day I would love a rematch, I would love to do it on more even playing grounds and let's run it back, I would love to do it."
But there's a catch. Garcia can't drop back down in weight, and he doesn't think Davis will move up to 147 pounds for the fight. Garcia explained:
"I don't think he's that type of dude that would wanna do that, to me it excites me to fight these guys, I'm excited to see how these guys can hold up to what I got."
While a rematch with Davis might be on hold, Garcia's got other plans. He'll face Rolando 'Rolly' Romero on May 2 in Times Square, New York City, with the regular version of the WBA welterweight title on the line.
As for Davis, he's coming off a controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr. He kept his WBA Lightweight World Title in that fight and looks set for an immediate rematch.
Even if the Garcia-Davis rematch doesn't happen soon, both fighters have plenty to keep them busy in the ring.
