The clash of the two boxers took place in mid-September last year. Canelo knocked his opponent down in the third round and won the fight on points: 117-110 and twice 118-109. Since then, Berlanga has recovered, having won against Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortis by technical knockout in the first round, and is set to meet Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KO) on July 12 in New York.
Current world champion in the super middleweight division according to WBC, WBA, and WBO, Saul Alvarez will attempt to claim his fourth and final title from IBF in a fight against William Scull (23-0, 9 KO) on May 3. It is worth noting that the fight between Sheeraz and Berlanga will have the status of a qualifier for the WBC title in the weight category up to 76.2 kilograms. By winning this fight, the Puerto Rican will secure a rematch.
"I still have unfinished business with Canelo. We need to do this again, I definitely have not closed this chapter yet. Of course, to get such a rematch, I will first have to restore my position, but I have a plan for that," added Berlanga.
