Derek Chisora thinks Oleksandr Usyk still has something to prove as the heavyweight champion. The former Usyk opponent believes the Ukrainian needs to beat Joseph Parker to show he's truly the best in the division.
Usyk's journey in the heavyweight class started with a fight against Chazz Witherspoon in the US. He then faced Chisora in London in October 2020, winning on points. Since then, Usyk's career has skyrocketed.
The Ukrainian boxer has beaten Anthony Joshua twice over 24 rounds and knocked out Daniel Dubois in nine rounds. He's also defeated Tyson Fury twice in 24-round battles. These wins made Usyk the first man in the four-belt era to become the undisputed heavyweight champion.
Despite these impressive achievements, Chisora isn't fully convinced. In an interview, he said:
"If he wants to prove he's the best he needs to defend his title against Joseph Parker. To be the best you have to fight everybody. He's boxed Tyson Fury twice, AJ twice. He's boxed me once. He's boxed Daniel Dubois once. So I think he should give a shot to Joseph Parker now."
Usyk's next moves are already mapped out. He'll need to face IBF belt holder Daniel Dubois again. The WBO has also ordered him to fight their top contender, Joseph Parker. If Usyk wins these fights, he'll become a two-time undisputed champion.
As for Chisora, he's looking towards retirement. He's planning his 50th and final fight, possibly as the IBF mandatory challenger for Dubois's title.
The boxing world is watching closely. Will Usyk take on Parker as Chisora suggests? Or will the undisputed clash with Dubois take priority? Either way, Usyk's reign as heavyweight champion promises more exciting fights to come.
