Oleksandr Usyk, one of boxing's best, says he's got just two more fights before he hangs up his gloves. The Ukrainian star wants to go out on top as a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.
Usyk's career is packed with achievements. He grabbed gold at the London Olympics as an amateur. Then, within six years, he became the undisputed cruiserweight champ, holding all four belts. He didn't stop there. Usyk moved up to heavyweight, won world titles, and became undisputed champ. He's matched Evander Holyfield's feat and gone one better than David Haye.
His list of wins is impressive. Usyk's beaten Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Daniel Dubois, Murat Gassiev, and Mairis Briedis. Now, he's looking to add two more names to that list before calling it quits.
In an interview with Al Arabiya, Usyk shared his plans:
"At the moment I don't know who my opponents are going to be but yes [I stand by that]. I have two fights to go in my unbelievable journey. Listen, for over 20 years no one could organise an undisputed fight, Saudi Arabia did it, His Excellency has done it and they can do it again. Fans want to see the fight very much."
One potential opponent is Daniel Dubois, the current IBF world champion. Usyk faced Dubois last August, stopping him in the 9th round. That fight had some drama when Usyk went down from what was ruled a low blow.
There's also talk of Joseph Parker. The WBO has ordered Usyk to defend his title against Parker. This could throw a wrench in Usyk's two-fight retirement plan.
Whoever Usyk faces, fans are in for a treat. The Ukrainian boxer has proven he's one of the best of his generation. His final two fights will be must-watch events as he aims to cement his legacy in the heavyweight division.
