Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. are getting ready to square off next month in a fight that's got fans talking. It's a big step up for Benn, who's moving up two weight classes to take on the larger, more experienced Eubank Jr.
This isn't the first time these two were set to meet. Back in October 2022, their fight got called off when Benn failed a drug test. Before that setback, Benn was on a roll. He'd picked up some solid wins against guys like Samuel Vargas and Chris Algieri, and was making a name for himself with his fiery personality outside the ring.
After the failed test, Benn spent over two years trying to clear his name. He's recently gotten back in the ring, winning two low-key fights in the US on the scorecards.
Benn's no stranger to tough fights. Back in 2017, he had a real war with Cedrick Peynaud. Benn got knocked down twice in the first round but rallied to drop Peynaud in the fifth and sixth. He ended up winning on points and beat Peynaud again in a rematch the next year.
Peynaud, who's gone toe-to-toe with Benn, thinks this fight with Eubank Jr. will be tough. He said:
"Eubank will have the weight advantage for me because that's his base weight class. But I think Benn, with his speed, could surprise more than one [person]. Now we'll see what strategy he implements."
But Peynaud also believes in Benn's potential:
"But Benn has everything he needs to become a world champion. Whether he'll achieve that goal remains to be seen."
Eubank Jr. brings his own set of challenges to the ring. He's naturally bigger and has more experience at this weight. George Groves, who beat Eubank Jr. in 2018, has warned that Eubank's physical strength could be a problem for Benn.
It's a classic British rivalry fight that's got everyone guessing. Will Benn's speed and determination be enough to overcome Eubank's size and experience? We'll find out next month when these two finally step into the ring together.
