Roy Jones Jr. wants to get back in the ring at 56 years old. The boxing legend's got his sights set on YouTube star Jake Paul for a potential comeback in 2025.
Jones Jr. retired as a four-division world champion and Olympic silver medalist. He's often called one of the best fighters ever. But he kept boxing into his late 40s and early 50s, which got some criticism. His last fight was in April 2023, when Anthony Pettis beat him by majority decision in Wisconsin.
Now, Jones Jr.'s talking about another comeback. He told Forbes he's sure he can beat Jake Paul:
"I'd beat him. I'm sure. I haven't had any conversations about fighting Jake Paul, I am not really a full-fledged heavyweight, but I weigh probably what he weighs right now. It wouldn't be hard to match his weight, I guess. The only thing different though is he will probably have to take me out because I'm coming to knock him out. I'm going to get him, or he's going to get me."
Jones Jr. knows there's a weight difference, but he thinks he can match Paul's size. He's not just talking about winning - he wants to knock Paul out.
Paul's been in the boxing game since 2020, and he's gotten a lot of attention - not all of it good. He just beat Mike Tyson over 8 rounds in Texas. That fight got some heat because Tyson's 58 and way past his prime. Tyson hadn't fought professionally since losing to Kevin McBride back in 2005.
Fans and boxing experts keep telling Jones Jr. to hang up his gloves for good. But it looks like the itch to fight is still there. We'll have to wait and see if this comeback against Paul actually happens in 2025.
