Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson Set Terms for Dream Matchup: "It's Now or Never"

George Fields Feb. 27, 2025, 4:10 p.m.

Stevenson, the current WBC lightweight champion, recently stopped Josh Padley in the ninth round. Padley stepped in at the last minute for Floyd Schofield. Stevenson's got a strong track record, having held world titles at featherweight and super-featherweight before.

Haney, on the other hand, used to hold all the lightweight belts. He's now the WBC super-lightweight champion after beating some tough opponents like Vasiliy Lomachenko, George Kambosos, and Regis Prograis. His last fight against Ryan Garcia ended in a loss, but it was later changed to a no contest when Garcia failed a drug test.

Promise u don't even gotta ask me twice!!

That's what Stevenson tweeted about the potential fight. Haney kept it short and sweet, responding with:

Agreed..

But there's a catch. Haney's moving up to 147 pounds after two fights at 140. Stevenson probably won't go above 140, so they'll need to figure out the weight class.

Right now, Haney's got other plans. He's set to fight Jose Ramirez in May. If he wins, he might get a rematch with Garcia. Speaking of Garcia, he's also got a fight coming up against Rolly Romero on the same card as Haney vs Ramirez.

Stevenson also mentioned Gervonta Davis as a possible opponent, but Davis hasn't responded to his message.

The boxing world's buzzing with all these potential matchups. Fans will have to wait and see if the Riyadh Season offer comes through and if Stevenson and Haney can work out the details.
