Former promoter of unified world middleweight champion Saul Alvarez Oscar De la Hoya is unhappy with Canelo's decision to unify with IBF titleholder William Squall.
"Canelo, what are you doing? People want to see big fights. They want to see Benavides. To a certain extent, they wish to see Crawford. They want big mega events, especially near the end of your career. So you might as well give them the big fights.
It's his career, his choice. In 10-15 years, are we going to say you avoided Benavides or did you give us a great fight against him? That's the question. I think it would have been a great fight. I think it would have been an evenly matched fight. I can't understand that. Fight the best. Canelo is the elite, he's at the top. He could fight the strongest. Legends fight everyone they put in front of them," said De la Hoya.
Recall that the Alvarez vs. Skull fight will take place on May 3 in Saudi Arabia.
