Tony Bellew, a former cruiserweight champion, has shared his thoughts on the current state of heavyweight boxing, focusing on Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Fury, known as "The Gypsy King," stepped away from the ring in early January. His retirement came after a second consecutive loss to Oleksandr Usyk. Despite this setback, Bellew still rates Fury highly in the heavyweight rankings.
Joshua, on the other hand, is working to climb back to the top of the division. He suffered a setback in September when Daniel Dubois knocked him out in five rounds. That fight was Joshua's attempt to become a three-time world champion.
Bellew shared his thoughts on the two fighters in a recent interview. He believes Fury will make a comeback if he wants to:
"Tyson Fury will be back 100%, if he wants to, that is. And I think he's the second-best heavyweight in the world."
When it comes to a potential fight between Joshua and Fury, Bellew has an interesting take. He thinks Joshua would come out on top:
"Possibly, but I think the clamour has died down a bit. I've always said, it and I'll stick by it, I think 'AJ' will be forced to let his hands go and I think he'll knock out Tyson Fury. Do I think he's the better fighter? No but not always the better fighter wins."
Fans are hoping to see Fury step into the ring one last time against Joshua. It would be a huge fight for both men's legacies. For now, Joshua might look at other options. A rematch with Dubois, or fights against Martin Bakole or Zhilei Zhang could be on the cards.
