Terence Crawford has closed the door on potential fights with Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman. The Omaha native made this clear after his dominant win over Errol Spence Jr in 2023, which crowned him the undisputed welterweight champion.
Crawford put on a show against Spence, sending the previously-undefeated fighter to the canvas twice before scoring a stoppage. This victory solidified Crawford's position as one of the best fighters in the world.
After the fight, Crawford took to social media to address Garcia and Thurman directly:
"My, my how the tables have turned. Danny Garcia you [and] Keith Thurman will never and I mean never get a shot at the top dog and that's me. Y'all hoe asses didn't want no smoke when I wanted to fight [remember.] Now y'all want to fight so bad – go keep fighting each other like [before]."
Crawford's message stems from past refusals by both fighters to face him when he was seeking big-name opponents.
Since then, Crawford has moved up to super-welterweight and defeated Israil Madrimov for the WBA belt. The switch-hitter is now eyeing a fight with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez two weight classes up.
As for Garcia and Thurman, their recent careers have taken different paths. Garcia moved up to middleweight where he lost to Erislandy Lara, leading to calls for his retirement. He had previously lost to Spence as well.
Thurman has only fought once since losing to Manny Pacquiao, beating Mario Barrios. He was slated to challenge for the WBC Super-welterweight World Title last year but pulled out due to a bicep injury.
As Crawford continues to chase bigger challenges, fans will keep a close eye on his next move. His dominant performances and willingness to move up in weight have cemented his status as one of boxing's elite.
