Roy Jones Jr Predicts Wilder-Ngannou Winner: "It's Gonna Be Lights Out"

Jones Jr shared his thoughts on the potential matchup in a recent interview. He pointed out the difference in boxing skills between the two fighters.

"Wilder will beat Ngannou because he knows how to box, he knows what boxing is about, and you saw what Anthony Joshua did to Ngannou, well Wilder is known for having a much more devastating punch than Anthony Joshua. If Anthony Joshua hit him like that and did that to him, what's going to happen when Deontay Wilder lands?"

Wilder, known as "The Bronze Bomber," has a reputation for his knockout power. He stopped every opponent he faced until his fights with Tyson Fury. Recently, Wilder lost to Joseph Parker on points and was stopped by Zhilei Zhang. Despite these setbacks, he's not retiring and has expressed interest in fighting Ngannou.

Ngannou, on the other hand, is still new to professional boxing. He lost to Tyson Fury on points in October 2023, though he did manage to knock Fury down. His most recent bout ended in a second-round stoppage loss to Anthony Joshua.

Jones Jr doesn't see the potential fight as completely one-sided, though. He added:

"But I wouldn't say it's a mismatch because if Ngannou can keep the right hand off of him he will give Deontay Wilder hell, you understand me, so I'm not going to call it a mismatch. (But) it would be slaughter in the cage."

The boxing legend also highlighted the vast difference between boxing and MMA skills. He explained:

"People don't realize that in boxing we don't do wrestling we only do boxing and in the MMA world they do boxing, they do wrestling, they do Jiu-Jitsu, all kinds of stuff. We only know how to box."

As it stands, the fight remains hypothetical. Wilder is currently recovering from an injury, while Ngannou's next move in boxing is yet to be announced. Fight fans will have to wait and see if this intriguing matchup materializes in the future.
