Amir Khan has thrown down the gauntlet to Manny Pacquiao, challenging the Filipino legend to a boxing match. The British fighter, known for his quick hands and daring challenges, made his intentions clear on social media.
Khan took to X (formerly Twitter) to call out Pacquiao, stating simply: "If he wants it he can get it Manny Pacquiao." This bold move comes as rumors swirl about a potential exhibition bout between the two former champions.
In a recent interview with World Boxing News, Khan expanded on his thoughts about facing Pacquiao:
"I saw Manny Pacquiao last night. When I met him, I got the feeling that he wanted to fight me. With Manny, you never know if one's day he's serious because we've been talking about this for such a long time."
The former Olympic silver medalist and super-lightweight champion seemed eager to make the fight happen, regardless of location:
"Look, if he wants it, it can be in London, it can be in Manchester. Wherever it is, it could be anywhere in the world, really, because both of us fighters are big names."
Despite his enthusiasm, Khan expressed doubts about Pacquiao's commitment:
"We could do a fight, but I just feel that Manny is wasting everyone's time."
Khan's career has seen him face top-tier opponents like Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford. He's scored notable wins over Luis Collazo, Marcos Maidana, and Devon Alexander. His last fight, a loss to Kell Brook in 2022, led to his retirement.
Pacquiao, now 45, hasn't fought professionally since losing to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021. The multi-weight great recently tried to qualify for the Paris Olympics but was unsuccessful due to age restrictions.
Khan's challenge to Pacquiao continues his pattern of pursuing high-profile bouts. For years, he's sought fights with both Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather without success. Whether this latest call-out will lead to a fight remains to be seen, but Khan seems ready if Pacquiao decides to step back into the ring.
