In May, Usyk won a split decision over Fury, even dropping him during the fight. The win made Usyk the undisputed heavyweight champion, a feat not achieved since Lennox Lewis over two decades ago. To make this rematch happen, Usyk had to give up his IBF belt, but he's kept hold of the other three.
Now, Lennox Lewis has weighed in on the upcoming fight, and he thinks Fury will come out on top this time. Lewis said:
"Yeah [Fury can do it]. I think Fury will look back at the fight and realise there is a couple things he should have done, and will do. Usyk is a great fighter, he's got a great mentality behind him, his country's at war, so when they fight he will still think he's at war. Fury knows what he needs to do. He's been at the bottom, he's been at the top, right now he's at the bottom and he knows what he needs to do to get to the top, he knows the route to get there. It's going to be a great fight, he wants to be undisputed as well. When he looks at the fight he knows there is a couple things he should have done and he's going to go in there and do them."
Lewis believes Fury's experience of being both at the bottom and the top of the sport will help him. He reckons Fury will analyze their previous fight, spot what he needs to change, and make those adjustments.
Usyk's got a lot going for him too. He's a great fighter with a strong mindset, and the ongoing war in his home country of Ukraine is likely to fuel his motivation even more.
The first fight between Fury and Usyk was a close one, and their rematch has got everyone in boxing talking. Both fighters want to be the undisputed champion, so we can expect them to give it their all.
Fury's got his work cut out for him, but Lewis thinks he's up to the task. The boxing world will be watching closely on December 21 to see if Fury can turn the tables or if Usyk will cement his position at the top of the heavyweight division.
