Tyson, who's 58 years old, used to be the top dog in heavyweight boxing. He's been out of the ring for a long time, except for one exhibition match in 2020 against Roy Jones Jr. On the other side, Jake Paul is just 27 and has a record of 10 wins with 7 knockouts and 1 loss. He's mostly fought former UFC fighters so far.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations has given the green light for this fight. It'll be 8 rounds, each lasting 2 minutes. The fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves but no headgear. Knockdowns and knockouts are allowed, which has some people worried about Tyson's safety.
Shannon Briggs, who grew up in the same area as Tyson and has trained Jake Paul before, thinks Tyson's got this in the bag. In an interview, he said:
"Easy work for Mike. Yeah [a knockout] for sure."
This fight is a big deal for Netflix too. It's their first time showing live boxing, and all Netflix subscribers will be able to watch it. They're also making a three-part series leading up to the main event.
As if that wasn't enough, there's also a rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano on the card, which a lot of people are looking forward to.
