Conor Benn's Promoter Drops Cryptic Hint About Eubank Jr Showdown: "Let's Play"

Eddie Hearn has hinted at a potential fight between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr in early 2025, reigniting a rivalry that spans two generations of boxers.

The matchup was originally set for 2022 as a catchweight bout, aiming to continue the legacy of their fathers' legendary fights from the early 1990s. But the event fell through when Benn tested positive for a banned substance.

Benn, now 27, has had a rocky road since then. He's picked up two wins against lower-level opposition in the US, but he's still dealing with the fallout from his positive test. The British Boxing Board of Control and UKAD have reinstated his suspension, leaving him unable to fight in the UK for now.

On the other side, Eubank Jr has had his own ups and downs. He lost his first fight against Liam Smith but bounced back to win the rematch. He's recently signed a new deal with BOXXER and has a hit list that includes some big names.

In a recent interview with IFL TV, Hearn didn't mince words about Eubank Jr's motivations:

"Chris Eubank Jr's got one thing on his mind – it stars with 'm', ends with 'y' and it's got 'one' in the middle. That's all he cares about. He ain't bothered about legacy, he ain't bothered about championships, he wants the moneys. And the moneys are to fight Conor Benn. So, Chris Eubank Jr, you can say about this fight, say about that fight, but if you want the moneys let's play. And we will play in the first quarter of 2025."

Hearn also gave an update on Benn's situation:

"We're waiting on a decision. He's dealing with things with his lawyers. He will be ready to fight hopefully at the end of this year, but without doubt in early 2025. He's ready to go straight into that Chris Eubank fight, for the moneys."

If it happens, this fight will draw a lot of attention. The historical rivalry between their fathers, combined with the controversy from the cancelled 2022 bout, will make it a must-watch event.

For now, fans will have to wait and see how things play out. Benn needs to sort out his legal issues, and Eubank Jr will need to decide if he wants to take the fight. But if everything falls into place, we might see these two face off in the ring in early 2025.
