George Kambosos throws a bold retirement threat at Vasyl Lomachenko

In an intense buildup to their upcoming fight, George Kambosos has thrown a bold retirement threat at Vasyl Lomachenko. The clash is set for this coming Saturday night in Perth, where Kambosos aims to ...

George Kambosos previously held the unified 135lb title after defeating Teofimo Lopez in 2021 via a split decision. However, he faced setbacks against Devin Haney, losing twice in title matches held in Melbourne. Most recently, he secured a victory over Maxi Hughes this July through a controversial majority decision.

Kambosos is poised to combat Lomachenko for a vacant belt left by Haney's move up to super-lightweight. This opportunity came about after extensive matchmaking spearheaded by the IBF to position Kambosos for another title shot.

During a recent press conference, Kambosos expressed unabashed confidence in his capabilities and preparation for this fight. He remarked on his unmatched speed and power, asserting these are elements Lomachenko has not dealt with before.

Kambosos made his views crystal clear on what he believes will be the outcome of their fight. "When I beat Lomachenko, there will be no more road for him to go. This is retirement for him," declared Kambosos, signaling a do-or-die scenario for the legendary fighter.

Describing their twisted path to facing off in the ring, Kambosos referenced past negotiations that hinted at this matchup years ago. “We were slated to possibly fight in 2019..., But it wasn’t meant to be... But, third time's lucky, and Sunday is when we do our battle."
