Stephen Thompson was defeated by a majority decision in a fight with Tyron Woodley March 4 at UFC 209. After the fight, “Wonderboy” admitted that he was in pain for all five rounds due to a damaged meniscus. In an interview with BJPENN.com, Stephen stated that he would require surgery.

“Tomorrow I will have surgery on my right knee,” the fighter said. - Nothing serious, meniscus damage. Problems with the medial collateral ligament in the knee, doctors said the injury would heal on its own. I don’t think the injury will keep me out of action for a long time, I hope to resume training soon.”

“Kavanagh wrote that he wants to see me fight Gunnar Nelson? I saw this tweet. We'll probably meet one day, but right now I'm focused on fighting Robbie Lawler or Carlos Condit“Thompson concluded.
