The Boxing Federations of Great Britain and the United States have created a new amateur boxing organization called World Boxing. They were forced to take such a step after the conflict between the IBA (International Boxing Association) and the International Olympic Committee, which threatened the presence of boxing at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Representatives from Germany, the Netherlands, the Philippines and Sweden have also been included in the interim executive board of World Boxing, which will be based in Switzerland. At the next Olympic Games in Paris, the IOC itself will organize the boxing tournament, as it was at the Tokyo Olympics.
Earlier, 12 countries boycotted this year's World Championships under the auspices of the IBA: the USA, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Canada, Poland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Norway and Ukraine. The reasons for the boycott were the permission to participate in them for Russian and Belarusian boxers, and support for Ukraine in the face of a full-scale Russian invasion.
