Vergil Ortiz Jr and Errol Spence Jr might face off in a big boxing match soon. People are talking about it, and some experts have thoughts on who would win.
Ortiz Jr just defended his WBC interim light-middleweight title against Israil Madrimov on February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He's a rising star in the sport, and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya has big plans for him.
De La Hoya said:
"I'm thinking about doing a homecoming party for him in Dallas and fight a top 10 guy. Then go after Fundora and then go after Crawford after he comes back down to 154 after he fights Canelo at 168. There's a lot of options out there for Vergil. I'm excited. Imagine if we can put together a Vergil-Spence fight at Dallas Stadium at the Cowboys Stadium. That would sell out the place. I think that's something to consider as well. There's some good options for Vergil."
Spence Jr, known as 'The Truth', is 35 and from Long Island. He hasn't fought since his first career loss to Terence 'Bud' Crawford two years ago. Crawford stopped him in the ninth round to become the undisputed welterweight champion.
Spence Jr was expected to return earlier this year against Sebastian Fundora, but that fight didn't happen for some reason. Now, people are talking about him possibly facing Ortiz Jr.
Former boxer Timothy Bradley thinks Ortiz Jr would win if they fought. He said on his YouTube channel:
"Seriously, you [Spence] probably feeling good, walking around, training and stuff, you know, you doing what you supposed to do, taking care of yourself and right, just keep it that way because you get in the ring with Vergil Ortiz man, that ain't good man. I know you was the big fish, you ain't no longer the big fish bro, you ain't the big fish no more, you might be one of them little guppies or something man, you ain't no big fish no more man. If you gonna come back you better do it right, you better get yourself a tune up, because if you come back and you fight Vergil Ortiz man, for sure, I'm putting money on Vergil Ortiz, he gonna stop you, he gonna stop you Spence I promise you."
Ortiz Jr might also fight Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, a former unified welterweight champion. Both fighters have said they're interested in that match-up.
We'll have to wait and see what happens next for Ortiz Jr and Spence Jr. A fight between them at the Dallas Cowboys stadium would be a big event, but nothing's set in stone yet.
