David Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs) successfully coped with the next test and is looking for meetings with the strongest in his weight category. The American returned to Saul Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs), four-belt super middleweight champion.
Benavidez confidently won this Saturday Caleb Planta (22-2, 13 KOs), and was close to stopping him in the final part of the fight. The 26-year-old Mexican appreciated the skill of his opponent and challenged Canelo to a duel.
“I would like to thank Caleb Plant. I know that we talked a lot to each other before the fight, but we acted like men. He is a great and tough boxer. I am happy that we gave the fans probably the best fight of the year or the last five years. I just want to say that I respect Canelo, but now he has to give me a chance. This is what everyone wants to see. I know that Alvarez has many options, but the fans are asking for this fight, the legends are demanding it, so be it," Benavidez said.
"The fight people want to see at super middleweight is me versus @Canelo so let's give it to them." @Benavidez300 #BenavidezPlant post-fight presser: https://t.co/hNqq8OiNtn pic.twitter.com/BEjq0vgBPz
