Golovkin and Alvarez will fight for a special belt

The World Boxing Council (WBC) announced that the winner of the fight between Saul Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) and Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) will receive a special Jaguar Warrior (Zapoteca Belt). Their duel will take place on September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The belt, created by the World Boxing Council, will be symbolic and will refer to Mexican Independence Day, celebrated in September. This will not be the belt that the winner will be able to defend in the ring in the future.

The real bet in this fight will be the WBA, WBO, IBF and WBC super middleweight championship belts. Boxers will also compete for the title of champion according to the Ring magazine. The entire evening will be broadcast on the DAZN streaming service.

On the same evening, WBC super flyweight champion Jesse Rodriguez (16-0, 11 KOs) will face Israel Gonzalez (28-4-1, 11 KOs). For 22-year-old Rodriguez, this will be his third appearance in the ring this year. The American defeated Carlos Cuadras and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in his last two fights.
