Jose Uzcategui (31-4, 26 KOs) lost the IBF super middleweight title in January 2019 to Caleb Plant (21-0, 12 KOs). On Nov. 6, Plant, who has defended his belt three times, will face WBC, WBA and WBO champion Saul Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) in a unification bout. Uzcategui doesn't give his winner much of a chance in this confrontation.
"The winner of my fight with David Benavides deserves to face the winner of Canelo-Plant. Will Canelo beat Plant? Yes, he can knock him out in eight or nine rounds," said Uzcategui, who will face David Benavides on November 13.
"Plant isn't strong enough at this point to survive a 12-round duel with Canelo. He hasn't fought anyone this strong since he faced me. Canelo is at the best moment of his career right now and Plant is far from his level," the Venezuelan added.
"Neither Canelo nor his fans will convince me that he's invincible, that it's a clash of David and Goliath. I don't look at it that way, I have a different attitude," said Plant himself, who managed a scuffle with Canelo at the press conference.
"Morally nobody is going to break me. But my opponents are still trying to do it. But I've fought boxers of every possible style, and I can break anybody myself. Caleb Plant is a good boxer, he has a good left straight. But that's about it," Alvarez claimed in early October before facing Plant face-to-face.
