The loss of Shane Mosley by unanimous decision at the hands of Canelo Alvarez in 2012 affected not only his professional record but also his wallet.

"I was paid $600,000 [to fight Alvarez], but I made a million dollar bet to beat Canelo, and if I won, I'd have $6 million," Mosley told Mario Lopez. - I didn't think the snot-nose would beat me at bantamweight. I had to pay $400,000 for getting punched in the face. Canelo got me."

Mosley was 40 and Alvarez was 21 when their May 5, 2012 fight in Las Vegas took place. Alvarez won 110-118 and twice 109-119.

In 2016, Mosley finished his career with a record of 49 wins (41 knockouts), 10 losses and 1 draw. The three weight class champion was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020. In an interview with BoxingScene.com last year, Moseley praised Alvarez's level of boxing.

"The fighter of the decade [from 2010 to 2019] for me was Canelo Alvarez," Moseley said. - He moved up in weight from 69 to 72, 76, 79 and dominated. He fights better fighters. Canelo is the man now. When I fought him, he was 22 years old. He was really good and I was impressed with him when I fought him in the ring. I really tried to use my experience and catch him because he didn't know as much as I did. He's got a great angle and a great team. His training sessions are impressive. They force him to get his punches right. He's got great reaction, punching power, speed. The complete package. He's the best right now. He knows the old school and the new school. I was surprised by his knowledge. He beat me, and obviously he's great."
