The World Boxing Council (WBC) has confirmed that Dillian White has lost the right to fight for the world heavyweight title after Saturday's defeat to Alexander Povetkin. This means that if Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) wins his third fight against Deontay Wilder, he will have an open path to the fight against Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs).

“At the moment there is no more name or date to worry about for the winner of the Fury vs. Wilder fight. We are not going to introduce any restrictions on this in the near future. We support the plan to unify the belts between the WBC champion and Anthony Joshua, who has three more titles,” said Mauricio Suleiman, president of World Boxing Council.

Wilder's third fight against Fury is scheduled for late December, but Top Rank's Bob Arum does not rule out postponing this fight to next year. Joshua is scheduled to return to the ring on December 5 when he crosses gloves with Kubrat Pulev, the official IBF title contender.

In early June, Eddie Hearn announced that a tentative agreement had been reached to organize a four-belt heavyweight unification fight of Joshua and Fury. The boxers have agreed to hold two bouts that could take place in 2021.
