Mexican and world boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez criticized Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. for choosing the date of their show fight. The retired champions are set to face off on September 12, the day Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) was to have his next fight.

“I don't like what happened,” Chavez told ESPN. "With all due respect, Mike Tyson's fight is a show, and Canelo's performance is a serious fight."

“Tyson stole the date from all Mexicans [Mexico Independence Day is on September 15]. For me this date is reserved for the Mexicans and now belongs to Canelo. I am embarrassed to see that Tyson wants to race with Canelo,” the famous champion added.

For now, however, it's worth noting that Alvarez's return in September has yet to be finalized. Even the name of Canelo's rival hasn't been finally confirmed, and Eddie Hearn, who is promoting some of the Mexican's potential opponents, suggests that the highest paid boxer on the DAZN platform is likely to return to the ring in November.
