Golovkin: Not all Mexicans will support Canelo in the rematch

World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is sure that Saul Alvarez will not be supported by all Mexicans in their rematch on September 15 in Las Vegas. The boxer from Kazakhstan said this at a teleconference that was held yesterday on July 3. Alvarez continued training in his native Guadalajara, Mexico, and Golovkin is in his traditional camp in Big Bear, California, with his coach Abel Sanchez.

"I understand why Oscar de la Hoya emphasizes that Canelo is a Mexican, and is the A-side in the negotiations for the fight, and that all Mexico will root for him. Oscar is a promoter, he should say like that. But I do not always agree with what he says. And we all know perfectly well that this is not so. I think Oscar is wrong about this. It will be a duel between two boxers, and the attention that this fight draws is not just because of Canelo. And not all Mexicans will cheer for him in rematch," said Gennady Golovkin.
