The upcoming battle between Russian Sergei Kovalev and Ukrainian Vyacheslav Shabransky will be for the WBO title according to the World Boxing Organization (WBO). This was reported by the WBO press office.
This decision was made at a meeting of the WBO Congress. Kovalev vs Shabransky is scheduled for November 25 in New York. In his last fight on June 17 Kovalev lost to the American Andre Ward and was unable to return the world titles he lost to Ward 7 months before.
After the retirement of Ward titles became vacant and the promotion company Main Events, representing interests of Kovalev, appealed to WBO with the request to assign the title status for a fight with Shabransky.
